7 Waterfront Wedding Venues in Collingwood & Blue Mountains (Georgian Bay Views Without the Algae Smell)

💡 How to use this guide
Seven venues in Collingwood and Blue Mountains with a genuine water story — two sitting directly on Nottawasaga Bay, two in towns on the bay, two looking down at it from the escarpment, and one wild card with a waterfall that has nothing to do with Georgian Bay and doesn’t apologize for it.

Here is something nobody tells you about getting married in Collingwood and Blue Mountains:

Georgian Bay is right there. Literally right there — you can see it from the highway on the way in. Nottawasaga Bay, technically, which is the southern arm of Georgian Bay, which is the part of the Great Lakes that makes you feel like you’re at the ocean but with slightly less maritime humidity and considerably fewer lobsters.

And yet. The majority of the region’s wedding venues face the other direction. Up into the hills. Toward the ski runs and the escarpment and the very convincing mountain aesthetic that Collingwood has spent four decades building. The bay is sitting right there going “hello, I exist, I am famously beautiful” and a significant percentage of the venue industry has collectively decided the mountain is more interesting.

Which means the venues that actually commit to the water — that sit on it, look at it, live near it, or in one very specific case have absolutely nothing to do with it but have their own dramatic water situation — are the ones worth knowing about. Because Georgian Bay at 7pm in August does not need a Pinterest board. It already looks like one.

Seven venues. All of them have water. Not all of them have Georgian Bay. We’ll tell you exactly which is which.

The Honest Water Guide

Before the venue sections: a quick key so nobody books anything based on a misread.

🌊 ON THE WATER — The venue is physically on or directly beside Georgian Bay / Nottawasaga Bay. Ceremony on a dock or lawn with the bay right in front of you. No asterisk.

🏙️ BAY-ADJACENT — The venue is in a town on the bay or a short walk from the water. Bay is close but the venue itself isn’t sitting on it. Views may or may not be included depending on where you stand.

⛰️ BAY VIEWS — The venue is up on the escarpment looking down at Georgian Bay. The view is real, expansive, and genuinely stunning. You are not on the water. You are above it, which for photos is arguably better.

💧 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WATER — Not Georgian Bay. Not Nottawasaga Bay. A waterfall and river gorge that makes Georgian Bay slightly jealous. Included because this post is about water, not because anyone misread the title.

Living Water Resort — Collingwood

🌊 ON THE WATER

View Living Water Resort →

No asterisk required here. Living Water Resort is the one Collingwood venue that committed fully to the bay-side brief — it’s right there on the Collingwood waterfront, which means the water in your ceremony photos isn’t a backdrop someone added in post. It’s just where the venue is.

Full-service resort infrastructure, which means you’re not coordinating seven different vendors to assemble a wedding on a piece of waterfront that was never designed for it. Ceremony space, reception facilities, accommodations, bay views — it comes as a package. For couples who want the Collingwood waterfront experience without DIYing it into existence, this is the answer.

Water situation: Actually on Nottawasaga Bay. Dock, lawn, bay in the background. This is the one.

Best for: couples who want genuine waterfront without assembling it from scratch, full-service resort appeal, guests who want to stay on-site.

Lora Bay — Thornbury / Meaford Area

🌊 ON THE WATER

View Lora Bay →

Lora Bay is a golf club and retreat property sitting directly on Nottawasaga Bay — the kind of setting where the golf course between you and the water is not a disappointment but a feature, because grass-to-bay is one of the better views this region produces. The clubhouse and event spaces sit elevated above the water with the bay spreading out in front of the property, which means the horizon in your ceremony photos is Georgian Bay and nothing but.

It’s a more private, less resort-y feeling than Living Water — you’re not in a hotel, you’re at a golf club on the bay, which has a particular kind of quiet confidence that suits couples who don’t need a concierge explaining the amenities every twenty minutes.

Water situation: On Nottawasaga Bay. Golf course between the venue and the water’s edge, but the bay is directly in front and fully visible. Views are genuine and wide.

Best for: couples who want bay views and golf-club elegance without full-resort infrastructure, a quieter feel than a hotel property.

Most venues in this region describe themselves as “Georgian Bay something.” Two of them actually mean it. You just read about both of them.

Georgian Bay Hotel — Downtown Collingwood

🏙️ BAY-ADJACENT

View Georgian Bay Hotel →

The Georgian Bay Hotel is in downtown Collingwood, which is a town that sits on Nottawasaga Bay — meaning the bay is close, the name is honest, and the walk to the waterfront is short. The hotel itself is an elegant boutique property in the middle of town rather than a venue sitting physically on the water, so “Georgian Bay waterfront ceremony” is not the pitch here. What the pitch is: an intimate, beautifully appointed hotel wedding in a town directly on Georgian Bay, with the water close enough that it shows up in your afternoon photos when you walk two blocks east.

Water situation: Bay-adjacent. The hotel is in downtown Collingwood, which is on Nottawasaga Bay. The bay is nearby and genuinely accessible — the venue itself is not physically on the water.

Best for: couples who want downtown Collingwood’s charm with the bay close by, boutique hotel intimacy, smaller guest lists.

Bruce Wine Bar — Thornbury

🏙️ BAY-ADJACENT

View Bruce Wine Bar →

Thornbury is a small town on Nottawasaga Bay that has quietly become one of the most charming wedding destinations in the region — and Bruce Wine Bar is the reason most couples end up there. It’s an intimate venue in the middle of Thornbury, which means you’re a short walk from the harbour, the bay, and the river mouth where the Beaver River meets Nottawasaga Bay. That’s not a bad backdrop for an afternoon stroll between ceremony and reception.

The venue itself is wine-bar intimate — not a sprawling ballroom situation — which is exactly why it’s on this list and not the big-guest-list roundup. For a smaller wedding where you want Georgian Bay close by, Thornbury’s waterfront character built into the day, and a venue that doesn’t require a stadium for 40 people to feel full, Bruce Wine Bar is the answer the region quietly produces when you ask the right questions.

Water situation: Bay-adjacent. Thornbury is on Nottawasaga Bay and the harbour is a short walk from the venue. The wine bar itself is not on the water but the town very much is.

Best for: small weddings, couples who want Thornbury’s waterfront village energy, intimate receptions with big character.

Georgian Peaks Club — Near Collingwood

⛰️ BAY VIEWS

View Georgian Peaks Club →

Georgian Peaks Club is a private ski club on the escarpment above Collingwood, which means the Georgian Bay views here are the kind you get from above — looking out across the bay rather than sitting beside it. That distinction sounds like a downgrade until you actually see it. Elevated bay views in this region, on a clear day, are something else entirely: the full arc of Nottawasaga Bay spread out below you, Collingwood in the middle distance, the water going all the way to the horizon. Your photographer will charge you extra for this backdrop and they’ll be right to.

It’s a private club, which means the experience comes with the polish and exclusivity that private clubs tend to deliver — and the price tag that tends to come with it. Not a budget venue. Absolutely a Georgian Bay views venue.

Water situation: Views from elevation. Georgian Bay is clearly visible from the venue, spread out below the escarpment. You are not on the water — you’re above it, which for a ceremony backdrop produces some of the best wide-angle bay shots in the region.

Best for: couples who want dramatic elevated bay views, private-club polish, larger luxury weddings.

Alpine Ski Club — Near Collingwood

⛰️ BAY VIEWS

View Alpine Ski Club →

Same escarpment, same bay, same logic as Georgian Peaks but with a different venue personality. Alpine Ski Club is a private members’ club on the Collingwood ski hills with Georgian Bay visible across the full valley below — the kind of view that makes guests who drove two hours from Toronto stop doing the math and just stare at it for a minute.

Like Georgian Peaks, this is a private club and it operates like one: exclusive, well-run, and not trying to be everything to everyone. If you’re a member or can access it through one, the bay views are the real thing and the venue delivers the private-club wedding experience without you having to drive to Muskoka to find it.

Water situation: Views from elevation. Georgian Bay is visible across the valley from the ski club — a wide, genuine bay view. You are on a ski hill, not a dock. The view is real, the water is not within walking distance.

Best for: members and their guests, private-club atmosphere, couples who want an elevated bay-view ceremony without the Lake Rosseau price tag.

The Falls Inn — Walters Falls

💧 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WATER

View The Falls Inn →

Fair warning: this one has nothing to do with Georgian Bay. The Falls Inn is in Walters Falls, a small community southeast of Collingwood near Owen Sound, and the water feature here is the Walters Falls themselves — a river gorge with a genuine waterfall that the inn has been sitting beside since it was built in the 1800s. It is beautiful. It is dramatic. It is absolutely not Nottawasaga Bay.

The case for including it: if you came to this post because you want water in your wedding photos, the Falls Inn delivers water in your wedding photos. Just a different kind — rushing river, limestone gorge, waterfall mist rather than bay horizon. For couples who love the idea of a waterfall backdrop more than a flat-water-horizon backdrop, this might actually be the most interesting option on the entire list. And “we got married beside a 19th-century inn at a waterfall” is a better story than most of the bay-view venues can compete with.

Water situation: Not Georgian Bay. A river gorge and waterfall on the property. Genuinely dramatic water feature — just not the water the post title implies. Read the venue page before booking if you had a dock ceremony in mind.

Best for: couples who want dramatic water scenery rather than bay-horizon water, heritage character, intimate settings with a story.

Frequently Asked Questions — Waterfront Wedding Venues in Collingwood & Blue Mountains

Which Collingwood venues are actually ON Georgian Bay?

Two: Living Water Resort and Lora Bay. Both sit on or directly beside Nottawasaga Bay (the southern arm of Georgian Bay) and both give you genuine waterfront ceremony space — no creative photography required. Georgian Bay Hotel and Bruce Wine Bar in Thornbury are in towns that sit on the bay and are a short walk from the water, but the venues themselves aren’t physically on it. Georgian Peaks Club and Alpine Ski Club have real elevated bay views from the escarpment. The Falls Inn has a waterfall and a river gorge that has nothing to do with Georgian Bay but is arguably more dramatic.

Is Nottawasaga Bay the same as Georgian Bay?

Yes — Nottawasaga Bay is the southeastern arm of Georgian Bay, which is itself part of Lake Huron. When people say “Georgian Bay views” in the Collingwood area, they almost always mean Nottawasaga Bay specifically. The distinction matters roughly zero percent for wedding photo purposes.

What’s the best time of year for a waterfront Collingwood wedding?

July and August for the warmest water temperatures and the most reliably beautiful light. September is genuinely worth considering — the bay views get a soft-focus quality in early fall that doesn’t exist in summer, the crowds thin out, and the light at golden hour in September on Nottawasaga Bay is the kind of thing photographers put in their portfolio. If you’re at an escarpment venue like Georgian Peaks or Alpine, fall colour on the hills with the bay below is its own category of spectacular.

Can I have an outdoor ceremony at any of these venues?

Living Water Resort and Lora Bay are built around outdoor waterfront ceremony space. Georgian Bay Hotel and Bruce Wine Bar in Thornbury are close enough to the bay that outdoor ceremonies near the water can be arranged with some coordination. Georgian Peaks and Alpine Ski Club have outdoor event space with the bay views. The Falls Inn has the gorge and waterfall as a natural outdoor backdrop. All of them have weather to think about — Georgian Bay weather is real and it does not RSVP.

Are the bay-view venues (escarpment venues) cheaper than the waterfront ones?

Not necessarily. Private clubs like Georgian Peaks and Alpine Ski Club operate at a premium regardless of whether you’re on the water or above it. “Views instead of waterfront” doesn’t automatically mean “more affordable” in this region — it means a different experience at a similar or higher price point. The budget venues in this region are the farms and barns, not the ski clubs.

So Which One?

If you want to be physically ON Nottawasaga Bay with a dock or lawn ceremony right beside the water: Living Water Resort.

If you want bay-side golf club elegance with the water spread out in front of you: Lora Bay.

If you want downtown Collingwood’s boutique character with the bay a short walk away: Georgian Bay Hotel.

If you want Thornbury’s waterfront village energy and an intimate wine bar reception: Bruce Wine Bar.

If you want Georgian Bay spread out below you from the escarpment and a private-club ceremony backdrop that photographs like a landscape painting: Georgian Peaks Club.

If you want the same elevated bay views with a different private-club personality: Alpine Ski Club.

If you want a waterfall, a river gorge, a 19th-century inn, and a water story that isn’t Georgian Bay but is better than most Georgian Bay stories: The Falls Inn, Walters Falls.

The full regional hub is right here. If water isn’t the priority and you want the full Collingwood venue picture, the 11-venue roundup has everything else. And if the budget is the first filter before the view, the affordable Collingwood venues post is the other end of this region.

Georgian Bay is right there. Now you know which venues are actually facing it.
