A Home From 1888, Ready For Your Small, Beautiful Day

Built in 1888 for James Ross — once Reeve of Oro and later Warden of Simcoe County — this Victorian home has been welcoming people through its doors for well over a century, and nobody’s quite sure who painted the six hand-painted angels circling the parlour ceiling. What we do know: you’ll get married in one room, walk through pocket doors into the next for tea and dinner, and never once have to think about setup, teardown, or where anyone’s supposed to stand. It’s a heritage home built for exactly the kind of wedding a lot of couples are quietly wishing someone would offer them — small, unhurried, and done.

VENUE STYLE & ATMOSPHERE

Not What You're Picturing. Better.

The word “teahouse” probably brings a specific picture to mind — maybe something small and quaint tucked into a strip mall storefront. This isn’t that.

This is a restored 1888 Victorian home, the kind with a wraparound porch, tall peaked gables, and a hand-painted ceiling nobody can quite explain. Pocket doors separate your ceremony room from your dinner room, so your twenty closest people never have to go anywhere else. No cookie-cutter banquet hall energy, no “make it work” folding chairs — just a genuinely beautiful, lived-in heritage house that happens to serve a very good afternoon tea.

Come for the wedding. Stay because you’ll wonder why more people don’t get married in houses like this.

The Lovely Teahouse only hosts one wedding at a time — there's no second ballroom running a shower next door. From March through Canada Day, most Saturdays are gone well before the season even starts, and weekday weddings (which run at the very same rate) are still wide open if flexibility works for you. If you've got a date in mind, checking is a quick message away.
YOUR WEDDING DAY

A Day That Doesn't Need Managing

The Lovely Teahouse keeps your ceremony and your dinner in the same two rooms, connected by pocket doors. Your day moves from "I do" to dessert without anyone standing around wondering where to go next.
Ceremony room and dining room are steps apart — guests just walk through
Full-floor rental means no shared spaces, no other events, no strangers
In-house catering and bar setup, so nothing needs to be trucked in
Free parking right on the property
2-3 hours of access before your ceremony to get everyone ready
Kristine, your on-site coordinator, has done this dozens of times
No golf cart. No second location. No coordinating who's where — just your people, one house, one afternoon.

The Lovely Teahouse Is A Good Fit If...

You want a small, intimate wedding — not a $30-40k production with 150+ guests
You'd rather everything be done for you than manage setup, decor, and logistics yourself
You want your ceremony and dinner in one place, with nobody traveling between locations
You love the idea of getting married somewhere genuinely old, with real history and character
A countryside setting close to Barrie and Orillia sounds better than a downtown hotel

This Venue May Not Be The Right Fit If...

Your guest list is well past 20 people — this venue is built for close, not big
You're picturing a dance floor and a late-night reception — that's not the vibe here
You want a loud, extravagant, show-stopper kind of day
You need full accessibility — there are a few steps at the entrance to navigate
You're set on an outdoor ceremony — the highway makes that a hard sell in practice

THE EXPERIENCE

What Makes This Venue Special

The Lovely Teahouse Table with Flowers in background.

Capacity & Flow

The main floor is built for a party of twenty, not two hundred — round tables, tea settings, and pocket doors connecting your ceremony room straight to your dinner room. Ceremony and reception happen in the same two rooms, so nobody's walking anywhere, and your day never loses momentum between moments.

Location & Accessibility

Located on Highway 11 in Oro-Medonte — genuinely halfway between Barrie and Orillia, with free parking right on the property. Just don't expect it to be a garden ceremony: the highway sits close enough that it's an indoor-only venue, and the main floor isn't step-free from the entrance.

Getting Ready Rooms

Upstairs, in the same historic building, Wish Bridal keeps rooms set aside for exactly this moment — a quiet space to get dressed, do hair and makeup, and settle your nerves before walking down. It's confirmed as soon as you book your date, so you'll know early whether it's available for that day.

A Venue Worth Talking About

Not many wedding venues can say they're an actual restored 1888 home. The angels on the parlour ceiling have been there since at least the 1960s, and nobody — not even Kristine — knows who painted them. Guests who come in expecting "cute little tea shop" tend to leave asking why more weddings don't happen in houses like this.
